This occurence was fairly frequent IIRC, that the impact snapped the ankles against the pedals and fuselage (indeed in one US plane currently on trial AFAIK the pilots legs are wired (literally) to the cockpit to be tightened in the event of an ejection, breaking the ankles but saving the pilots legs.....doesn't bear thinking about really).

Are there any photos of Sergeant Lazarev's grave at Chupa cemetery??
Just what i was going to ask myself , some photos of the poor lads grave would be a good conclusion.
Thank you for the photos - reminds one that behind all that we read about or may have in our homes that youngsters died as a part of this history , such a waste of a youngmans life.

Thank you Dimas for these images. The preservation of the bog is quite remarkable & defies the ravages of time. For those of us with a passion for the history & artifacts such things evoke a great deal of excitement; but in such a case as this not without deep emotion. Whilst it may seem macabre to some that battlefield excavations take place it must be contemplated in the understanding that as well as bringing the reality of war in to stark focus it is the only way that thousands of soldiers have received a dignified burial. Where identification is possible it enables the authorities to to do that which is right & may well provide closure for some families.
I am glad to know this young man now has a proper resting place.
