Real or fake..........advice please

Hi,i have been offered this belt and buckle locally,story goes the old lady found it in her husbands stuff and seems to remember him taking it from a POW towards the end of the war,so her daughter has offered it to me,only for the price of about 3 pints,would like to know if it real.Thanks all MP40

Thanks for all the great info guys,really appreciate it. I bought the belt from the lady,and as she is having a clear out she may have more stuff.......fingers crossed.
Can anyone narrow down a date?

Sometimes there are some markings/date on the belt...That might help. Looks like a solid set and well worth the "three pint" price!
