Awarded for the Polish Soviet War

Awarded to Cpl.Adam Sowiak on March 26th, 1921 who was attached to the 13th Infantry Regiment for the Polish Soviet War.

Hello Emil,

Hopefully you’re not dismayed that we started the Cross of Valour threads outside of this one that you started. Not to take the wind out of your sails, but what I would like to see develop on our Polish Militaria forum is a more detailed study of the Cross of Valour in its many variations rather than one general thread where all the many decorations are discussed in a haphazard manner. Eventually we should have dedicated threads for the Virtuti Militari and even Cross of Merit as these also have many interesting variants.

Your thread will remain active for the other less common decorations, of which there are many. And I’ll take this opportunity to add these –the Medal and Cross of Independence . . .

STOP PRESS! Well here I go again, hijacking Emil’s thread.

On second thought, and following Robert’s and others questions, I decided that this important and fascinating decoration deserves its own dedicated thread. Emil’s thread will remain this forum’s depository for discussing the other pre-war decorations, which from time to time may spawn dedicated threads.

My Grandma (Who was a nurse in the resistance) told me when she saw her Father dressing up for a parade she seen a medal with swords on the top so I think my Great Grandfather was a recipient of the Cross of Independence with swords!Heres my only photo of him in uniform sadly in Imperial Russian (He fought in the Russo-Japenese war,World War 1, and the Polish Soviet war).
