Some, (poor), fakes you can recognise at the German colours, inserted into the grip, also bad workmanship.
Also ROSTFREI SOLINGEN, stamped upon the blade, also the lack of the maker must alert !
Original knives always are showing the maker and the year of manufacture !
Also the frog can blow a copy !
Original frogs are sewed and riveted, (two rivets !).
Copies sometimes are showing only one, single, rivet or the lack of all rivets, instead, you can find a sewing.
In the grip, (only on one side), you have to find the letters BW, (for Bundeswehr).
At poor copies one, (or both), screws are casted in one, single, piece together with the hilt.
Also the olive-green colour of the hilt and the olive-green varnish of the scabbard are typical for such, (original !), M1968 knives.
Fakes are often showing a strange, (too bright, or, too dark), colour ...
Also, you always have to check the measurements of such knives !
And, last, but, not least, you must "cultivate" an instinct and you have to trust on your gut´s ! ;
BTW, beware of the seldom seen black, ("prototype"), M1968 knives !
They´re existing indeed but are often faked !
Real specialists in fighting knives for sure find more characteristics to make out a fake !
