Waffen-SS camouflage cap – M42 Tarnmütze

Hey, the cap comes from a private dealer with only positive reviews in Eastern Europe. This guy has been pulling interesting items from barns, attics, farmers, etc. for many, many years.

This time he told me that the cap came from the family of a former soldier of the Latvian SS Legion.

The material is original and you can see it perfectly. Question. Was the cap sewn for the end of the war?

These type of cap are a minefield. Many were made post WW2 from old Zeltbahns. But genuine ones were field made so there are variations.
But something I see here that looks odd is the interior "Autumn" brown camo is faded more than the green camo fabric. That might suggest it has been made from an old Zeltbahn.

Beware of dealers who are always pulling 'interesting items' from barns, attics, and farmers for many, many years. Invariably they turn out to be fake.

It certainly compares favorably to this one listed on Kelly Hick's site. It is convincing but there will always be some doubt as to when it was made. Considering the prices on these camo field caps it is a gamble.
