Hello everyone! I am still very new to collecting WW2 memorabilia and I got my first Yosegaki Hinomaru.

My first piece of memorabilia was unfortunately faked. So I would like to see if anyone might be able to translate some of the kanji and tell if this flag is authentic. If I need to take some different angle pictures please let me know.

    Thanks!

Hello again all. I was just checking back in to see if there was any way some of the names could be translated? I have tried researching what I could with different translation tools and haven’t come up with much (I am a newb). Just very interested in the history of this flag. Is it possible that there are any more slogans on the flag? Much much appreciated!

It’s not worth it. (At least from the view point of the one who has to do all the work.)
There are no other slogans or messages and none of the well wishers’ signatures bear any titles.
Translating old Japanese signatures is a nightmare even for a native Japanese like myself because (1) old cursive script is very difficult to decipher as we no longer encounter cursive script in every day life, (2) the characters are sometimes in the older pre-war form (we now use an abbreviated form of kanji) and (3) in many, if not most, cases kanji have multiple possible readings so unless it is some historical figure or an acquaintance, you’ll never know how one’s name is actually pronounced. (For this reason, it is mandatory for most documents that you also write your name in kana, which are phonetic characters.)

I am sorry I didn’t realize it was that complicated with the pronunciation. Thank you for that information!
