Hi Auda, thanks for the comments.
The blade is just in very good condition and reflects the light in the photo. The motto is not a dark etch, so it does give it a bright overall look. It is typical for this maker.

Hello Ade,
Thanks for that very interesting thread. I must say that it is up to your normal high standards.
Any knowledge if he survived or not?
Andy
Hi Andy, thanks for you very kind comments.
I was initially led to believe he was KIA. But research has comfirmed this to be incorrect. The only men listed as missing or dead with his surname are these. None of the names or dates of birth fit with him:
Nachname Vorname Geburtsdatum Todes-/Vermisstendatum
Eickemeyer Alfred 01.06.1908 01.01.1945
Eickemeyer Hans 07.07.1925 01.02.1945
Eickemeyer Horst 15.05.1926 11.02.1945
Eickemeyer Johann 01.09.1901 29.12.1945
Eickemeyer Reimar 09.04.1915 01.01.1945
So it would appear that he survived the war. Like all these kind of projects, the research is an ongoing thing. If I find out more, I will certainly update the thread.
Cheers, Ade.
Ade, Great find and story , can't wait to see if you can find out about his after war years. Thanks, John

Hi, and thanks for the kind comments.
To the best of my knowledge there are no online lists.
The serial number you mentioned being very low would be well worth researching.
I look forwards to seeing the dagger. I love researched items.
Cheers, Ade.
