Original paint & liner on M39?
Article about: Saw this online for around \\$200 and I'm wondering if this is original paint. Usually Romanian helmets had a more darker green paint so I'm stumped. I definitely think it's an original German

Hello.
max. the leather is German and recycled.
The rest of the liner is not German

The stamps are the year of manufacture and the batch code for the metal used.

Original too, right?
What about the paint on the shell?

This is not a M39. The Romanians ordered their helmets just before the war. Your helmet is a Dutch M33 (also made in 1933) that was captured by the Germans and given to the Romanians. The Dutch lion insignia was removed and the helmets were spray painted. At a later date, when the dutch liners were worn out, these "German" liners were inserted. The leather ring is a left over from the dutch liner. The leather is German. A bit of a hodge podge.
Well, one can say that the colour is original to the helmet in Romanian use. Certanily not the work of a hobby artist.
Cheers,
Emile
BTW : Romanian M39 helmets were sold to Romania in the same colour as the Dutch helmets.
